Yum Yum Donuts

was a childhood nickname given to me by Elliot Something.
donuts also trigger memories from elementary school where after my mom and i would drop the older siblings off at the big, scary high school, we would have some quality time before i had to be in school. so we would roll into the donut shop and i would either get a sugar, twisty, or glaze donut with chocolate milk sipped through a straw while sprawled out in the backseat of the brown lexus. i've since become more adventurous with my donut choices, and don't eat them as often-but one thing for sure has stayed the same-i LOVE donuts. and my mom.

well, while big sis was visiting from new york recently, we decided to treat ourselves to some donuts. we went to a random shop, and as soon as we walked through the doors, we must've gone through a vortex into the 60s. we were amongst raggedy orange stools, reddish clay floor tiles(the same kind as our childhood house), heavy industrial donut machine monsters, broken shades, and a fix-it man.

it was all an eerily perfect anachronism. the whole ambiance, the light, and the 2 elderly customers who had the time to sit in at 2 pm, order some sweets and coffee, and converse with each other. the cashier knew both by name as they talked about former presidents, crazy people, and their families(synonymous? possibly.)

it's pretty amazing to see how these days, people's mentality is commonly to get in and get out. drive-throughs, restaurants...relationships...
but when you can take the time to just sit, observe, and soak in the easily bypassed beauties of just being somewhere- you can really capture and appreciate the details in your surrounding, and the people you share your life with.

with all that being said, i really love those days where i can sit and talk/listen/be for HOURS. in the end, i have no clue where the time went, or what we even talked about- but i love it. even when it means being kicked out of parking lots at 5am.
i often frustrate people by my yertle the turtle snail-like tendencies but what can i do-i like to take my sweet d'oh-nutty time.
